What To Snapchat A Guy First

Snapchat is such an underutilized app in the dating world. More prominent in younger age groups, the majority of us barely use it. It puts such a great range of tools out our fingertips that learning how to flirt with a girl on Snapchat is a must. With text, photo, video, filters and live video chat all in one place, it offers more flexibility than you might know what to do with. That's why I've put together this complete guide for how to get girls on Snapchat.

I'm going to walk you through everything you need to know about the app so you can get started with it today. Let's start off with breaking down what Snapchat actually is and how to use it.

So, what's Snapchat all about?

Initially released as a simple way for two people to share photos with each other, it had one key difference. The photos would disappear soon after they were seen.

This saw it make a big push into the dating world almost immediately. Both men and women were free to send scandalous photos back and forth with (almost) no risk of the Internet seeing it.

I say almost no risk because there's no way to stop the other person taking a screenshot. This risk still remains today but it's still a much safer alternative to sending them via text, Facebook or Instagram.

Since those humble beginnings, the app has really grown and sees daily use from millions around the world. This broad user base combined with the features listed above makes it ideal for dating (almost like meeting a girl on Facebook dating). With so many ways to communicate via this app, knowing what to say to a girl on Snapchat becomes so much easier.

Though it must be said, if you're just looking to hook up with someone, there are better ways to do that. We've reviewed the best hookup apps and sites so you can skip all the nonsense and get down to what you really want to do.

Before we go any further, let's take a look at the key features you need to know about. Note that I'll only be covering the basics here since it receives regular updates which make for constant change.

Text messages

The biggest difference between messaging in Snapchat vs other alternatives is messages disappear after they've been read, unlike when you're talking to girls on Facebook.

To send a message, tap the speech bubble icon in the bottom left corner. Tap on one of your contacts in the list (if you don't have any yet, sit tight. We'll get to that soon) then chat away like you would anywhere else.

Ideal for rapid-fire conversation, they don't work so well if either of you take days to reply. Since your previous message will be cleared, her reply won't have any context!

Photos

When you open the app, it will immediately launch your camera. To take a photo from this screen, just tap the big circle at the bottom. That's it!

Videos

Videos are taken from this same screen and with the same button. All you have to do is tap and hold that circle instead of just tapping it once. Easy, right?

Stories

If you've used stories on Instagram or Facebook, it's the same thing here. In case you haven't, think about it as a collection of your most recent photos and videos.

Like everything else in this app, it will automatically clear after a short time. It's a good way to keep people up to date with what's going on. Since people can also comment on your photos (shown only to you in a text message window), it's also a great way to encourage conversation without ever reaching out.

Adding a photo or video to your story is simple. Once you've taken one, you'll find a square icon in the bottom left corner with a '+' in it. Tap this and make sure My Story is selected.

Selecting who sees your photo/video

If you want to take a photo and send it to specific people you can do this too. Just take the photo or video then hit the blue 'send' button in the bottom right corner.

You'll be presented with a list of your contacts as well as having the My Story option at the top. You can select as many people as you like from this list and they'll all receive a copy.

Adding friends

Adding friends to your Snapchat is very easy and offers you three options. You can search for them by their username, scan their Snapcode (a unique image, very similar to a QR code) or from your phone's contacts list.

Since covering how to use these options is an article in itself, I won't go over them here. Instead, check out the article from Technobezz on how to add people on Snapchat.

Filters

If you've spent more than three seconds on Tinder, you will have seen them in action. Every photo that you see of women with dog ears and nose and a huge tongue is a Snapchat filter.

With the help of face recognition, they'll add some quirky overlays on your photo or video. Giving you different facial hair, ears, a crown or any number of different things.

Perhaps a little overused, they can make for a bit of fun in the right situations.

To add a filter, tap the button in the top right corner to flip the camera so it's facing you. Next, tap the little smiley face next to the big circle at the bottom. You'll see a bunch of filters you can scroll through.

Play around with them and see what each one does. Some play music and some will even change your voice.

Starting to see why it's so important to your dating life now? No matter where you are or what you're doing, Snapchat has a relevant feature for you to use.

How to get girls on Snapchat

Now that you're familiar with the basic functionality of this app, let's take a look at how to use it for dating. Don't expect it to be similar to meeting girls on Facebook.

In this section, we're going to take a look at everything you need to go from fresh install to that first date

Who to add on Snapchat

Okay, now we have that out of the way, let's start talking about how to flirt with a girl on Snapchat.

First things first, who should you be adding as a friend on there? Think of it as being closer to Facebook than Instagram or Twitter. You should only be adding people that you know in some way.

They don't have to be family or close friends but adding random women can be a little odd.

If you've met her through one of the dating apps or websites, make sure you have a conversation going first. Even if she has her Snapchat info in her bio, I still wouldn't recommend adding her and chatting immediately.

Take a moment, build some comfort and rapport, then go right ahead.

What to Snapchat a girl

Okay, you've added her in Snapchat but now what? I actually find this one surprisingly easy.

If you're drawing a blank and don't know what to Snapchat a girl, just tell her exactly that! Take a selfie with a confused expression and an ironic caption. Something like "new Snapchat, who dis?"

Starting your first conversation can be about how you don't know what to talk about on Snapchat. It's ironic, mildly amusing and most importantly, an easy topic to discuss.

Learning how to start a conversation on Snapchat isn't so difficult after all.

Positive and funny are your friends

Just like any other form of communication with her, you want to stay positive and funny. A lighthearted conversation that makes her life easy is ideal for building that rapport I was talking about.

The easier it is for her to chat with you, the more likely she is to do it. If most of your conversations revolve around negativity, it can be far too draining and just no fun.

Comfort before escalation

This is something I talk about a lot and for good reason. If you try escalating in any way before she's comfortable with you, it's going to hurt your chances.

Women don't struggle for attention from guys so you chatting to her isn't a big deal. If you go from "Hi, I'm Dave" to a photo of your naked body in 30 seconds, you've just put yourself in the 'creep' basket.

Instead, take your time. Chat casually with her and demonstrate that you're a smart, funny and confident man. This is going to get her attention and separate you from the other guys vying for her attention.

Once you've established that comfort, it's time to escalate. Try to avoid the common trap of staying in this phase. Just chatting with her for weeks at a time, having established comfort two hours in.

Go easy on the compliments

Snapchat is a form of social media, so you can expect her to always be looking her best. While it might be tempting to comment on how "fire" she looks in your story today, I wouldn't recommend it.

There's nothing inherently wrong with compliments, just be cautious with how easily you dish them out. If she's waking up to a message from you every day saying how hot she looks, it isn't as romantic as you might think.

If anything, you're probably going to end up looking creepy and desperate, seeing no signs that she likes you. We both know that's not true but she doesn't. Not yet.

When you do compliment her, try to look beyond the aesthetic. She might look great but what else is going on in that photo? If she's skydiving in Italy and all you can say is "you look amazing", it's time to read our article on the topic. It's aptly named "How to compliment a woman without being a creep".

Not sure what to talk about? Ask her questions!

This is a great tip for texting in general. It's even better in Snapchat because you'll be seeing photos and videos of her as well. Most photos will give you at least five things you can ask about.

Again, try to avoid focusing on how she looks. Rather than "you look great, have you been working out?", think broader. Where is she? What's she doing? Has she done it before? Does she do it regularly or was this a one-off? The list goes on.

The question itself doesn't need to be mind-blowing. It's just designed to start a conversation or change topic if things were getting dry.

A simple "your dog is so cute, what breed is it?" can take you both down a rabbit hole of conversation for hours. Most importantly, she loves her dog and is excited to talk about it so the conversation doesn't feel like work.

No. Dick. Pics.

Say it with me right now. "I will never send a photo of my penis to anyone on Snapchat."

That's all there is to this point. Unless she specifically asks for it (she won't), it's not okay. She won't find it attractive, nor will she be turned on or impressed.

Dick pics are the whole reason photos are no longer an option in Tinder and Bumble. This is why we can't have nice things.

Don't ask for nudes

Similar to my previous point, don't go asking her for nude photos. If she's comfortable sending them to you, she'll do it. If not, you asking won't change her mind.

When discussing this with my female friends, their thoughts are always the same. A guy asking for nude photos immediately comes across as sleazy. Like the only reason he uses social media is to see naked women.

Even if they were planning to send him something sexy later, him begging for them is enough to change their mind and block him.

Sexting is totally acceptable

Believe it or not, women are just as sexual as men. They enjoy it as much as we do and they enjoy talking about it too.

I'd even venture to say they enjoy sexting more than we do. Done correctly, sexting should be a slow, steady build-up, teasing her throughout the day. When you can do this, you're getting her turned on in all the right ways.

You're getting her thinking about sex with you and making her want it when you DM her. As a general rule, women are more emotional than men and this extends to the bedroom too. For them, sex is about so much more than the physical act.

By appealing to their other senses through Snapchat, you're really pushing all the right buttons.

Don't let the conversation become one-sided

One of the very few rules I recommend in texting is to never send more than two unanswered messages.

On Snapchat, not every snap will get a response (that's the Snapchat culture, see below) so you can extend this number a little. Personally, I won't go beyond five unanswered snaps.

Whether it's a text message within the app, a photo or a video is irrelevant. If I've sent her something on five separate occasions and not received a response, it's time to cool it.

At this point, she's either not interested or she's busy. Either way, crowding her with constant notifications isn't going to help the cause.

Use Snapchat for more than just messaging women

You're getting the hang of how to start a conversation with a girl on Snapchat and that's fantastic. Just don't let it become your sole use of the app. If you maintain an active story of fun or creative things in your life, it shows her what you're all about.

This alone is going to help build that comfort and give you both some interesting topics to talk about. It's such a great opportunity that shouldn't be overlooked.

On the other hand, if you only have an account to message women, it's going to look very sparse. You'll be online constantly yet never post anything which feels a little. . . off.

Not all messages will get a response

You know how it's considered rude to never reply to a text message? That's not how things work on Snapchat.

For one reason or another, that just isn't the culture on this app. Maybe it's the fleeting nature of communication on this platform, I really don't know.

What I do know is that she won't reply to everything you send her. Likewise, you aren't obligated to respond to everything she sends you.

It might take some getting used to initially. Just remember this point though -- it isn't because you're boring or she isn't interested. It's just the way people use it!

That wraps up on this guide on how to flirt with a girl on Snapchat. That should absolutely give you enough to be familiar with the app and get started.

Like any new app, the rest is a matter of practice. Learning how to get girls on Snapchat is fun and exciting. What are you waiting for? Go install it now and get started!
